FAQs

What is The Dirty Easel?

The Dirty Easel is a place to lose your inhibitions, get creative, and paint! Spend two hours with us and you’ll walk home with your very own unique painting. Music, drinks, and our Creative Inspirant will help you to feel at ease while you are painting. You’ll learn the basics of acrylic paint and how to use brushes…but even more importantly you’ll learn how much fun it is to take some time and just play with paint.

I have never painted before. Is this the right place for me?

Yes! Everyone can be creative. Chances are, when you were young, you did paint. And you loved it. Many who come to the Dirty Easel feel some trepidation, but they quickly get over it and get into the spirit. We would love for you to experience how much fun it can be to play around with colors.

I am an experienced painter; is this for me, too?

Definitely. Since this is not an instruction-based class, we are not geared to any skill level. If you love to paint, this is a great place to be stimulated by the buzz of all the people around you that are chatting and are engaged in the same activity. The atmosphere, the music, and the drinks provide inspiration for all artists. The other benefit is that you can just walk in and start painting. No searching for room in your house to do art. No set up, no clean up, no dried brushes if you haven’t painted for a while. It is easy and it is convenient.

Are you giving instructions that teach me how to paint?

This is not a class that teaches you art techniques like an art academy. The idea of The Dirty Easel is for you to discover how to listen to your intuition and to be able to enjoy experimenting and playing without having to follow instructions. We are here to help you to make that happen.

What should I wear?

We will provide smocks to hold back most of the paint from your clothes. But please don’t wear anything that can’t stand a few additional color spots. We want you to feel free to dive into painting and not being worried about ruining your Versace shirt from Venice.

Is The Dirty Easel one more of those paint and sip places that are spreading all over the US recently?

While we share the idea of socializing, painting, and perhaps drinking, our main philosophy is completely different. Our goal is not that at the end of the session everybody has the more or less (and some even lesser than less) the same painting in front of her. We love that at the end of a painting event with The Dirty Easel you can walk around and see a huge variety of very different and fascinating pieces of art. And just as life is rich and full of variations, so is art. This is your time to experience creativity and freedom, and we are here to help you achieve that goal. Our customers also say that they enjoy not being in direct competition with the other painters because it is quite easy to tell which “Starry Night” has been drawn by an experienced painter and which by a newbie – even step-by-step instruction can’t hide those facts. Plus, we want you to find your very own pace, your own groove and experience the joy that getting lost in your very own painting can give you. It is so exciting when you invent something that is uniquely yours and when you don’t know at the beginning how your painting is going to look like 2 hours later.

Do you offer private parties?

Yes we do. And a private painting party where everybody is active, creative, and busy while socializing at the same time is a great alternative to the same old same old. Painting with The Dirty Easel creates very special and unique memories for birthday parties, bachelorette nights, holiday gatherings, family reunions, corporate events, and more.
